1. Punctum: “Punctum” by Memoryhouse
Punctum means a small, distinct point or the opening of a tear duct. In photography, punctum refers to the wounding, personally touching detail which establishes a direct relationship with the object or person within a photo.
2. Artful: “Labrador” by Aimee Mann
Artful is an adjective meaning clever or skillful, in a crafty, deceptive way.
3. Appendectomy; Sans; Gallows in “You Must Be Out Of Your Mind” by The Magnetic Fields
Appendectomy is a surgical operation to remove someone’s appendix.
Sans means without.
Gallows is a scaffold consisting of two vertical beams and one crosspiece, used to execute criminals.
4. Percolate: “Every Single Night” by Fiona Apple
Percolate is a verb meaning to pass through, to spread slowly or gradually.
